Artist's Description
This painting is based on the crucifixion of Jesus as told in the Gospel of Luke 23:32-43. The two shades of yellow signifies heaven, the red signifies the blood shed by Jesus for everyone on the cross, while the black signifies sin. Since Jesus did not commit any sin there is no black color touching the cross at the center. The crosses to the left and right had two thieves crucified onto them and the black symbolizes their sins. One of the thieves repented while hanging on the cross and his sins were forgiven by Jesus and the thief went to heaven that day. The cross on the right is a picture of this whereby his sins were washed away and he was made clean and taken into heaven. However the other thief doesn't repent till the end and therefore his sins were not washed away and he was separated from God. This is portrayed by the cross on the left.
